Open Source Project Names

Posted on April 24, 2010June 25, 2010 by Shovas

I read freshmeat a lot which is basically a clearing house of mostly open source projects and their new versions.

Here’s a rule for all you people naming projects:

If your project includes an acronym or odd letter collection, and the very first thing in your project description, after using that acronym or odd letter collection, is a parenthetical explaining how to pronounce it, perhaps it’s not the best project name.

Get a project name that doesn’t need an explanation of the project name immediately after using it.
