Ever wondered what a “far cry” is?

My brother begged the question,

Its quite gusty and rainy here, and chilly, a far cry (whatever far cry really means :P )

Apparently, far cry means,

distance estimated in terms of the audibility of a cry; “it’s a far cry from here”

Now you know.
