Of Luck and Endeavour

Posted on August 4, 2011 by Matt

Luck is that remaining portion of effort, that divide between action and completion, which the universe dutifully throws a coin against. Those deemed luckier than others are, on the whole, simply those who endeavoured to narrow the divide in relation to their peers, be it by ever so slight a degree. mjg/11

Of Revolution and Redemption

Posted on July 23, 2011 by Matt

The world asks for a revolution but a revolution is simply the process of going in circles. What they really need is to identify the wrong way, turn about, and then head in the right way. What the world needs now is not revolution but redemption. mjg/11

Of Foolishness and Wisdom

Posted on July 18, 2011July 23, 2011 by Matt

1 Corinthians 1:25, “For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.” Your role, Christian, is to live in God’s foolishness, appearing the fool to all. In doing this, you take on the weakness of man, allowing the foolishness of God to overturn the strength of…

Of Change and Redemption

Posted on July 8, 2011July 9, 2011 by Matt

People change. People change again. And He who made them at the beginning, who made them male and female, He is mighty to save. mjg/11

Of Hope and Waiting

Posted on July 1, 2011July 9, 2011 by Matt

Francis Bacon once said hope was a good breakfast but a bad supper. I, for one, am glad that I should still be eating. mjg/11

Of Time and Choice

Posted on June 24, 2011June 25, 2011 by Matt

Think of time as a sequence of individual moments, one moment leading another, each a three-dimensional cube. You, and friends, family and acquaintances, in each moment, as subject. You hover over your life-line. You can look down from above and see the entirety of your moment-picture life. From this vantage point, you grasp ownership of…

Not Even Theory

Posted on June 22, 2011 by Matt

Recently, I was in a brief discussion over Facebook regarding a link to notjustatheory.com. My friend, not a believer of young earth creationism, pointed out the site and I wrote a comment in reply that, indeed, the “just a theory” anti-evolution argument is really an invalid argument. And it is invalid. But it reminded me…

Of Success and Reward

Posted on June 10, 2011 by Matt

Be wary offering your admiration to those who achieve worldly success, by worldly means, from worldly views. As He said, “they have received their reward,” and, again, “your Father who sees in secret will reward you.” mjg/11

Better Colour Schemes for PuTTY

Posted on June 8, 2011September 20, 2014 by Matt

Update 2014-09-20: Try the Consolas font instead of the default Courier New. It’s slightly smaller but still quite readable and permits a narrow 80×40 window which I can lay out side-by-side 3 times on my desktop (1920×1080) without overlapping. That’s something you can’t do with Courier New at 80×40. Give it a try under Putty…
